Merge two folders with the same name. If you have two folders with identical names at two different locations, you can merge them into a single folder. Press and hold the Option key, then drag one folder to the location that contains a folder with the same name. In the dialog that appears, click Merge. How to merge two folders on Windows 10. Copying and moving files on Windows 10 has changed. The change is subtle but exceptionally useful. You’ll notice it when you’re copying a file or folders with the same name to a new destination. When you move a file to a location that has another file with the same name and extension already present. Go to the folder where you had bulk files, press CTRL+A to select all files. Now go and expand the Home ribbon on top and click either Move to or Copy to as per your requirement. Then select Choose location, if you want to move the files to user created folder. Then select the destination folder from the list and click Copy/Move. Click the ‘Browse root directory’ button and select the input folder that contains all the folders that you desire to merge. You will then notice that Folder Merger will automatically display a list of files stored within all subfolders of that main directory.

What is a zip file? – A zip file behaves similarly to a folder in that it can contain multiple files and folders. Usually, data is packed into a zip file archive for transportation. Files in a zip archive are compressed using clever mathematical algorithms which makes zip files ideal for transporting files across the internet. You can’t have more than one file or folder with the same name in a folder – Windows needs to tell files apart just the same as you do, so you can’t have two files with the same name in the same folder.
If you try and put a file with the same name as an existing one into the same folder, Windows will show you information about both files and ask you to confirm that you want to replace the original file.
If you try and put a folder with the same name as an existing one into the same folder, the contents of the folders will be merged. Any files which exist inside both folders will be overwritten. If a file is in the source folder but not in the destination folder, it will be moved to the destination. If a file is in the destination folder but not the source folder, it will be left alone.
